AskAdStage uses simple sentence structures that are intuitive and should flow like a normal ask, depending on what you want. 

Basic structure: Tell us the format you want (list, chart, etc) on what level/entities (account, campaign, etc) the metric you care about and the date range. 

  

Basic Structure: (example)

List of examples:

/askadstage -> default chart

/askadstage list spend on top 10 campaigns over last 60 days

/askadstage chart ads CTR for top ads by spend last month

/askadstage chart spend on account groups for this month

/askadstage list top 20 accounts by network this year

Commands, Parsers & Modifiers:

Here are the lists of commands, parsers and modifiers that you can use to structure your sentences to AskAdStage:


Commands:
Start your query off with one of three options:

Chart: /askadstage [sentence]

  • Chart shows a line chart and show options to switch to bar, pie, or list
  • Chart is default option

List: /askadstage list [sentence]

  • List shows a line chart with performance data listed below and pause/enable buttons

Pause/Enable: /askadstage pause [sentence]

  • Pause or Enable takes action on the entities matching the command

Example: /askadstage list Facebook campaigns with the most conversions last 7 days


Chart types:
Include any of the commands below to use that chart type:

  • bar: barchart, bar
  • pie: total, pie
  • line: linechart, line

Networks: (/askadstage chart all active facebook campaigns where spend is greater than 50 and campaign name contains brand)
Include any of the network names below to only include those networks' performance data:

facebook / adwords / bing / bing ads / linkedin / twitter

Entity Level:
(/askadstage spend on top 10 campaigns over last 60 days)
Include any of the commands below to use that entity level:

  • account_groups: account group, accountgroup
  • accounts: account
  • folders: folder
  • campaigns: campaign
  • ad_groups: ad group, adgroup, ad set, adset
  • ads: ad

Status: (/askadstage chart all active facebook campaigns where spend is greater than 50 and campaign name contains brand)
Include any of the commands below to use that status:

  • all_with_deleted:  all_with_deleted / all with deleted
  • all_active: all_active / active
  • all_inactive: all inactive / inactive


Metrics:
(ex. /askadstage spend on top 10 campaigns over last 60 days)
Include any of the metrics below to chart that metric:

  • cpc: cost per click/cpc
  • results: results
  • cpm: cpm
  • cpr: cpr
  • ctr: ctr
  • cpa: cpa/cost per conversion
  • clicks: clicks
  • impressions impressions
  • spend: spend/spending
  • conversions: conversions/converting
  • conversion-rate: conversion rate`


Timeframe:
(/askadstage spend on top 10 campaigns over last 60 days)

Common Timeframes:

  • over the last X day/week/month/quarter/year
  • for this X day/week/month/quarter/year

Custom Timeframes:

  • between/from/since custom date and/to custom date

Other Timeframe Choices:

  • ISO8601: 2017-05-12
  • Month: January,dec ...
  • Year: 2012...
  • Month + Year: April 2016, feb 2017

Modifiers/Filters: (/askadstage spend on top 10 campaigns over last 60 days)

Order:
To sort by descending or ascending use:

  • top, best, highest performing
  • bottom, worst, lowest performing

Aggregate By:

  • by + day/week/month

Sort:

  • by + metric

By Network:

  • by + network/channel

Operators: (/askadstage chart all active facebook campaigns where spend is greater than 50 and campaign name contains brand)

  • > / greater than / bigger than / higher than / larger than
  • >= / greater than or equal to / bigger than or equal to / higher than or equal to / larger than or equal to
  • < / less than / lesser than / smaller than / lower than

Naming Convention: (/askadstage chart all active facebook campaigns where spend is greater than 50 and campaign name contains brand)

  • ~/ match / matching / matches / contain / contains / containing
  • !~ or not match / matching / matches / contain / contains / containing

Best Practices & Other Notes

  • AskAdStage can only comprehend Slack messages with the prefix /AskAdstage
  • Unlike Report, AskAdStage can only chart one metrics at a time, but you can list multiple
  • AskAdStage charts and lists can only be viewed in the Slack channel in which they were generated
  • You can change the format of an AskAdStage by clicking one of the other chart options just below (bar, line, pie)
  • Default date range - Last 30 days (if not specified)
