How do I use Join for Google Analytics conversion data?

AdStage Join allows marketers to connect paid ad performance data with Google Analytics conversion data in order to discover how many down-funnel conversion goal completions come from each network, campaign, ad set, or ad.

How does it work?

Join works by connecting your Google Analytics goal completion data with the paid ad account, campaign, ad group, and ad from which the conversion came via UTM parameters. Simply select the GA goal and ad accounts you'd like to join together, choose a level of granularity, and then schedule how frequently you want AdStage to join your data.

Once you click save your Join task can be found in the Join table. Join will run and start mapping data at the scheduled time, based on the join levels you set. When the task has run, you can jump into the log to see the results.

Then, implement your newly joined custom conversion in your Report dashboards and Automate tasks by searching for the custom conversion by name in the Fields section.

What are some common ways to use Join?

  • Show how marketing efforts contribute directly to each portion of the funnel (web analytics, down-funnel metrics)

  • Prove campaign, ad, etc. ROI or ROAS (Return on Ad Spend)

  • Automatically pause/enable campaigns or adjust bids based on down-funnel metrics

How do I set up a Join task?

Step 1: Navigate to Join by hovering over the Data Management Icon on the left-hand sidebar.

Step 2: Click the “Create New” button on the top right-hand side.

Step 3: Choose Google Analytics as your conversion source.

Step 4: Choose the GA goal(s) to connect with your paid data and enter a name and description for each custom conversion.

Step 5: Select the ad account(s) you want to join with your GA goal(s).

Step 6: Select the Join levels of granularity you’d like to use for this custom conversion.

Step 7: Match your GA keys with your network keys by selecting the corresponding options from the drop-down boxes on the right-hand side.

Step 8: Choose a lookback window for which AdStage will pull conversion data, a “use data from” time range, and frequency for how often AdStage will pull conversion data.

Step 9: Name your Join task and click Save.

Best Practices and Other Notes

  • Custom conversions created in Join can only be accessed in cross-network widgets.

  • Join cannot be used to connect GA goal completions to conversions that come from LinkedIn Showcase Page Sponsored Updates.
