Many marketers want to map down-funnel conversions back to their paid media campaigns. Join - Upload Data gives you the power to tie external conversions like leads or call tracking data to your search and social campaigns through a CSV upload. 

AdStage Join connects down-funnel conversions back to the paid data the conversions came from all based on UTMs in your URLs. There are a few different conversion sources. In this article we'll cover Upload Data, but if you are interested in connecting Salesforce leads/opportunities or Google Analytics goal data, you can use their dedicated conversion sources to automatically join data every day.

What are some common uses for Join - Upload Data?

  1. CRM Data: Map your leads, whether they're from Marketo or another CRM tool, back to the account/campaign/ad set/ad they came from.

  2. Call Tracking: Do you track calls outside of the native networks? Bring DialogTech, CallRail and other call tracking conversions in through Join - Upload Data.

  3. Revenue Data: See which ads are driving the most revenue.

  4. App Install Data: Do you track app installs with a third party tool like AppsFlyer? Easily bring installs, loyal users and any other important conversion to AdStage.

How do I build a Join - Upload Data task?

Step 1: Navigate to Join by hovering over the Data Management icon on the left-hand side of the screen.

Step 2: Click "Create New Join Task" in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Step 3: Select "Upload Data" as your Conversion Source. Upload a file that lists out your down-funnel conversions with UTMs, conversion date, and value (optional). 

Step 4: Set the "Select Conversion Date" to the column in your CSV that includes the date of the conversion. Set the "Select Conversion Count" to the column that says how many conversions are included in that row. If each row is a separate conversion, set the "Select Conversion Count" to a unique row, for example, Account ID.

Step 5: The next field will pre populate with the name of the "Select Conversion Count" column. Feel free to edit this name. This will be the name of the KPI you search for in AdStage Report and Automate. Add in a description and set the "Select Conversion Value" to a value column, if you have one.

Step 6: Set the network and accounts you'd like this file to join to. Feel free to add in as many networks and accounts as you need. If you are having trouble diagnosing the success of your task, consider separating out networks the first time you run the task.

Step 7:
 Select your Join levels. Based on your file, what entity level will Join be able to map uniquely down to? If you use UTM source, medium, and campaigns, it's safe to assume you can check Account and Campaign. If you have more UTM parameters that include Ad ID, for example, then you'll be able to map down to the Ad level.

Step 8: Set your Join keys. This is where you tell Join what column in your file associates with what UTM. Leave any dropdowns that aren't used for UTMs or in your URLs blank.

Step 9:  Give your Join task a name and click "Save". You'll receive an email when your task has successfully ran.

Step 10: Jump into the task's "Last Run (Log)" to see how your task ran. As a reminder, if you have rows that aren't applicable to AdStage Join, like organic data, it's normal to have errors, as those conversions won't be joined in AdStage.

Step 11: Jump into AdStage Report or Automate to start using your new down funnel conversion. Search for the name you titled the field in the Conversions panel in any cross-network widget or Automate task.

  • There are two ways to format your conversion data. Either where each row represents a single transaction, e.g. sale, or where rows that are pre-aggregated per day.

  • To ensure a clean upload, select your whole sheet and clear the formatting but make sure the date stays formatted like this: 2019-10-01
